What is
Dynamic Neuromuscular
Stabilization
(DNS)?
By training your body with DNS, you can re-establish the natural, innate way of stabilizing and moving. The body’s function is normalized, pain and stiffness are reduced. You will also often notice that your body becomes stronger and more resilient, without increasing your muscle mass.
As a result of physical, emotional or chemical stress on the body, we sometimes lose our natural way of stabilizing ourselves. When this happens, we fall back into less effective, non-optimal stabilization strategies. The wrong muscles start to be used to stabilize us, which increases the strain on our muscles and joints. This also increases the risk of injury, as well as stiffness and pain.
Prague School of Rehabilitation
The DNS rehabilitation method was developed at the Prague School of Rehabilitation in the Czech Republic. The work of well-known professors such as Lewit, Janda, Vojta and Vele was further developed, integrated and streamlined by Prof. Pavel Kolar.
DNS is Based on Developmental Kinesiology
The nervous system establishes programs that control human posture, movement and gait. This ‘motor control’ is largely established during the first critical years of life.
Therefore, DNS emphasizes neurodevelopmental aspects of motor control in order to assess and restore dysfunction of the locomotor system and associated syndromes.
The patterns of movement development seen in infants follow specific sequences that are also very useful for “re-learning” correct patterns later in life.
Central principles are joint centration, restoring ideal muscle coordination, breathing and postural control.
